Disseminating Data
The DSDR project archives and disseminates data through ICPSR. The DSDR staff is available for consultation about data dissemination procedures. DSDR also assists data producers by providing restricted data access through contractual agreements, custom subsetting, and enclave services. Benefits of working with DSDR to archive and disseminate data include: long-term preservation, user support of public-use files, promotion of the data as a resource for the scientific community, tracking usage statistics for data, and inclusion in an on-line, searchable database of publications that make use of DSDR data.
Public-Use Data Sharing
When a data collection arrives at DSDR, the data will be prepared for public release and archived in perpetuity, thus benefiting the entire social science research community, now and into the future. The pages below explain in detail the steps undertaken by DSDR toward this end.
- Initial Assessment
- Confidentiality Review
- Creation of Study Descriptions
- Processing and Quality Review
- Data Release
Restricted-Use Data Sharing
DSDR welcomes data collectors to consult with our staff about best practices in archiving and disseminating restricted-use data. DSDR staff is also available to manage restricted-use data dissemination for data collectors. The following set of procedures is the current practice for disseminating restricted-use data in place at ICPSR. DSDR invites data depositors to contact us to discuss customized restricted-use data dissemination plans.
