While there are many places you might stay in the Ann Arbor area, you may prefer to look first at the establishments below. In addition to being within walking distance of campus, they are also within a short walk of many restaurants and cultural venues. The staff at these hotels are generally familiar with our Program, and in some cases a small block of rooms is set aside for our participants. Keep in mind that you will need to make reservations at least one month in advance to secure one of these rooms and to receive the discounted ICPSR rate. To ensure that you receive any available discounts, when making reservations, clearly indicate that you are associated with the ICPSR Summer Program. If you cancel your workshop reservation, you are responsible for canceling your room reservations as well.
The following private hotels are all within a 10-minute walk from class:
* You must call to book accomodations within the reserved room blocks for the ICPSR Summer Program.
Cambridge House: 541 Thompson Street, formerly the Michigan Union Hotel, is appropriate for short-term (one or two weeks) stays. Accomodations are not up to hotel standards, but are an upgrade over a similarly sized dorm room. Cambridge House is located between, but in the same building as, the Michigan Union and the West Quad residence hall. The 2008 rates for single rooms will be $48 per night, and double rooms will be $60. The principal advantages of Cambridge House are that is only a block from the Perry Building where our three- to five-day workshops meet and it is significantly less expensive than the hotels within walking distance. For reservations call University Conference Services at (734) 764-5297.
Michigan League Hotel: 911 University Drive (734) 764-3177. You must call to book accomodations within the reserved room blocks for the ICPSR Summer Program.
Northwood Short-Term Housing: Located a short, free bus ride from Central Campus, Northwood offers one- and two-bedroom apartments for $500-$525 a week. For reservations call University Conference Services at (734) 764-5297.
Additional suggestions and resources may be found at University Housing's short-term housing options page.
The Inter-Cooperative Council at the University of Michigan, ICC Student Housing Co-ops, offers short-term housing and guest contracts. More information can be found on the ICPSR long-term housing page or at www.icc.coop.
The University of Michigan's Campus Information Center maintains a comprehensive list of local accommodations. The Ann Arbor Convention and Visitor's Bureau has a nice list of accommodations that also includes maps, driving directions, and links to hotel Web sites.
University dormitory housing is also a possibility, but availability varies. Information can be obtained from the University's Conference Services Web site.
